About The Porter Brothers

The Porter Brothers—Dr. Tecoy Porter Sr. and Dr. Ellington W. Porter Sr.—are a multi-talented sibling duo celebrated for their powerful fusion of gospel music, ministry, and community leadership. For over two decades, they have shaped the spiritual and cultural landscape as leaders of Genesis Church Sacramento, where they have faithfully served since 1999. Together, they have cultivated an award-winning music ministry that bridges generations and genres, inspiring lives across the nation and beyond.

Known for their dynamic sound and electrifying choir direction, The Porter Brothers have earned numerous accolades with the Genesis Church Choir, including being named Regional Finalists of Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound Choir Competition in both 2011 and 2012. Their collaborative performances span a remarkable list of gospel legends and contemporary greats—including Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Donald Lawrence, CeCe Winans, the late Edwin and Bishop Walter Hawkins, Beverly Crawford, DJ Rogers Sr., and James “Big Jim” Wright. Their musical reach even extends into country music, having performed with Grammy-winning group The Judds.

In 2009, the brothers expanded their influence by taking leadership of the MLK Celebration Community Choir—a 100+ voice, multicultural choir representing diverse churches across Sacramento. Under their leadership, the MLK Choir has become one of the region’s most sought-after community choirs, performing at high-profile civic and faith-based events such as the MLK Worship Celebration, Luis Palau Festival, NBA Sacramento Kings Faith & Family Night, and performances with CCM artists like Peter Furler of the Newsboys and Britt Nicole. The choir has also performed at official state events, including programs hosted by California Secretary of State Shirley Weber and other government leaders.

Through their label, Markee Wes Productions, The Porter Brothers have released an impressive catalog of recordings, including choir albums, EPs, and live worship projects.

In addition to their recording work, The Porter Brothers have produced and directed music for significant national events, including serving as Music Directors for the George Floyd Memorial Service in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the 2020 March on Washington for the National Action Network—further solidifying their role as leaders in gospel music and social justice movements.

Outside of music, both brothers remain influential in civic, cultural, and faith-based spaces. Dr. Tecoy Porter is a nationally recognized civil rights leader, policy advocate, and recipient of the 2025 Wyatt T. Walker Award from the National Action Network. He is also a long-standing member of the Recording Academy (Grammys) and serves on the board of the Edwin Hawkins Music & Arts Global Conference. Dr. Ellington Porter is a highly acclaimed organist and keyboardist, serves as an Associate Professor of Worship at North Central University, and continues to be an in-demand music director, producer, and worship consultant across the country.

While their catalog and contributions continue to grow, The Porter Brothers’ greatest joy remains their deep love for family, unwavering commitment to the local church, and enduring service to God’s Kingdom—through song, service, and spirit.
